The Community Library in Ketchum, Idaho is a free public library committed to bringing information, ideas, and individuals together to enhance the cultural life of the community. We are a local nonprofit organization and rely on donations to fund operating costs. The Children’s Library at The Community Library is in need of a unique display shelf to highlight new books and seasonal displays. This would be an octagon-shaped shelf with layers and sections for display. Ideally, it would also have wheels for portability. We are seeking a class or individual to fund the building of this unit or (ideally) to build the unit for us.

Our ideal would be to have a woodshop class build this unique unit for us. We do not have a design for the unit, so that would need to be created by students as well. Everything from design, to acquiring materials, to sanding, building, and painting could be done by a class with expertise in woodwork. The end result would be a convenient, portable shelf that is more suited to our current space and provide exposure for our collection items.

This project serves a local, nonprofit organization and hours may be counted as community service. The time to design the shelf, approving plans, shop for materials, sand, building, and paint the unit would depend upon manpower and expertise in the project. Estimated time: 25 hours.
