A very minimalist trail to a future bird viewing area (lean-to like) was built by the 7th graders this summer. This trail could continue through the cottonwoods near Sullivan’s pond. There will be a boardwalk and pathway to it but the actual structure would be very minimal (or it may be determined that a structure is not necessary). The focus here is on birds and the important connection between birds, bugs, habitat, etc. I envision the pathway having a series of stopping points with bird signs (similar to the visitor center).

The students could design or co-design coloring books for field trips where they could then try to find and identify birds, bugs and plants of the ecosystem. One page could be for checking off their list and adding new species they see. This will help kids understand the relationship between birds, insects, fish and the creek.
