The School of Music (SOM) program instructs students in string instruments (violin, viola, cello), piano and voice. The SOM is working to acquire instruments for students to borrow, so that any interested student has the opportunity to learn to play the violin, viola or cello regardless of financial means to purchase or rent one.
The Instrument Bank Project asks WOW students to make a financial contribution to purchase a 3 violins or 2 violins and 1 viola for students in need. WOW student will meet the musician(s) receiving the instrument and visit the musician’s SOM classes to understand:
- the value of the instrument to the recipient;
- the SOM program;
- the value of music education.
The WOW student will document the Instrument Bank Project experience through photographs, video or essay for posting on the Sun Valley Summer Symphony website.
As part of this project, the WOW student will volunteer for the School of Music. Volunteer service assignment will be commensurate with the WOW student’s age and skill set. Volunteer projects could be serving as an usher at student recitals or assisting with SOM administrative tasks.
