At LPLC we have trained over 1,000 child care providers in early literacy instruction in Idaho. In this project, we will disseminate our newly updated series of books, Every Child Ready to Learn, to parents of children enrolled in Head Start in the Wood River Valley and in Blaine County School District Preschools. The goal of this series is to provide easy to implement activities that help support the development of the skills that children need to enter kindergarten ready to learn. There are three titles in this series:
Every Child Ready to Learn! Activities to help your child develop early literacy and numeracy skills. Infant, birth to 18 months
- Every Child Ready to Learn! Activities to help your child develop early literacy and numeracy skills. Toddler, 18 – 36 months
- Every Child Ready to Learn! Activities to help your child develop early literacy and numeracy skills. Preschool, 36 months – 5 years
For this project we will engage Blaine County students in the process of delivering the books to the Head Start classroom and Blaine County preschool classrooms. When the books are delivered, we will ask the students to stay in the classrooms and read with a preschool “buddy”. We will also work with Head Start and the Blaine County Preschools to arrange parent evenings that will provide training for parents and encourage them to practice the activities outlined in the books at home.
