Art Buddies: A Double Perspective
Teresa Beahen Lipman
What are the appropriate grade levels?
Is there a limit to the number of participants?
The theme for this project is:
Art, Relationships, Elder Care, Health and Wellness
Provide your students with the opportunity to build relationships with local senior citizens while exploring, creating, and learning about art from the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. Your students will be partnered with a group of seniors from The Senior Connection; three times during the school year, the students and seniors will visit exhibits together at The Sun Valley Center for the Arts. A trained docent will take the students and seniors on a tour of the exhibit, and after the tour, will guide the students and seniors to create art inspired by the exhibit.
This project is a wonderful opportunity for students to impact the life and health of senior citizens while also enhancing their own art education. “The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) recently found that ‘older adults’ who attended cultural events, from museum exhibitions to the opera, reported better mental and physical health than those who did not.” (Herzig, Ilana “Taking Your Grandparents to Museums Could Improve Their Health.” Artsy.
