To promote safe sleeping, we encourage parents to only use swaddle blankets (Halo Sleepsacks) for newborns. They keep unnecessary items out of the cribs/bassinets that can cause suffocation and promote safe sleep habits for mothers and their babies. The sleepsacks allow babies to be placed on their backs which is the safest sleep position; keeps them warm by being all enclosing; swaddles the baby while allowing for freedom of leg movement, which is most beneficial. In the past, we have done this project and all of our patients really enjoyed it these lovely gift.

The students will invest in the Halo Sleepsacks and customize gift tags for each that describe
the student generosity initiative.

Students will begin their projecty by taking a tour of the Mother/Baby unit here at St. Luke’s Wood River and see where the babies are first born and then tour the hospital. After they can come back and deliver the swaddle/Halo blankets to the Mother/Baby unit and perhaps any new parents who are inpatient at the time if the patients are willing.
