The goal of Dollars for Collars is to help students learn the importance of pet identification to prevent pets from becoming lost. Each year, about 250 animals are brought in as lost pets and only about 125 are picked up by their owners. The rest are adopted into new homes. However, we want to help all of the animals find their owners.

  • Students will learn about how to keep their pets safe and how to prevent them from getting lost.
  • They will also learn what to do if they find a pet or if their pet goes missing.
  • The class will also learn about different types of identification and how to use them.
  • Students can record a series of short informational videos about collars, id tags, and lost pets.

Class Visits & Field Trips

  • 1 class visit to discuss the project.
  • 1 class visit to record videos.
  • 1 field trip at the culmination of the project and review videos.
